Love of Learning was inspired by my son, Asher when he was in kindergarten. We had just moved across the country to a new state, new school, new home....new everything. He had also just experienced significant trauma.
Our son was always curious and loved to explore. His brain was in constant over drive and he was a sponge, soaking up all he could. He was literally a poster child for a kid who had a love of learning, always eager to learn new things.
One day in the spring of his kindergarten year, he came to me crying and said, "Mommy, I am really sad and I am really sorry but I really don't like learning anymore."
He said that kids in his class were reading chapter books and that his teacher told him he was "behind" and told him that maybe he should do kindergarten over again.
Insert mama bear... I will spare you the details.
To make a very long story short, I was so grateful to have the tools and background to know that my child was not "behind," he just wasn't reading yet. And the most profound realization Asher had was that he still LOVED learning...he just didn’t love to be rushed and he didn’t thrive in a one size fits all approach to education.
This gave me the inspiration to help other kids reclaim their love of learning and make them feel encouraged rather than discouraged.
